Linebacker/defensive end Jason Taylor rejoined the Dolphins on Wednesday, taking the air out of the theory that the Buccaneers were interested.

Taylor was linked to the Bucs because new defensive coordinator Jim Bates worked with him in Miami. Bates also had regular, independent conversations with Taylor while Taylor sought a place to play after his release from the Redskins earlier in the offseason. But the Bucs as a franchise didn't appear interested.

Taylor, 34, turned down $8.5 million for another season with the Redskins to return to Miami, where he played his first 11 seasons before being traded a year ago to Washington. He will make $1.1 million in base salary and $400,000 in easy-to-reach incentives.

The Patriots courted Taylor in recent weeks, but he wanted to return to South Florida, where he still lives.

"My heart has always been in Miami, and so I'm truly excited to call myself a Dolphin once again," Taylor said.

Taylor didn't like being away from his wife and three children last season and wanted to rejoin the Dolphins regardless of how much Washington offered, said his agent, Gary Wichard.

dungy on vick: Former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy talked about meeting with former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick at a federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan. Dungy compared Vick's situation to many of the ex-offenders who were seeking jobs at a resource fair where Dungy was speaking.

"I think Michael is just like so many other guys that I have seen, so many other people who are nameless, faceless in that environment," Dungy said. "It's a young man that made a mistake and is looking for a chance to recover and move forward. That's where he is and that's where so many of the men who are here today are."

Dungy also spoke out against criticism that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, has received since she said during the Miss USA pageant last month that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

"I respected her for saying what was on her mind, rather than saying, 'Well, I'm in this pageant and if I say the wrong thing, will it cause me to not win?'??" Dungy said. "She answered honestly, according to her convictions. I think we're wrong to not credit people like that."

REID SON IN PRISON: The oldest son of Eagles coach Andy Reid returned to prison. Garrett Reid's lawyer, Timothy Woodward, said he was in an altercation at a Philadelphia halfway house. Garrett Reid, 26, was sentenced to two years in a drug program in July.

Cowboys: The new stadium will be called Cowboys Stadium, and country star George Strait will headline the opening event, a June 6 concert that will also feature Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton and Julianne Hough from Dancing With the Stars.

ravens: Right tackle Willie Anderson, 33, is retiring. He spent all but two seasons of his 13-year career with the Bengals, making four Pro Bowls.
