A year ago at this time, Jason Taylor and vice president of football operations Bill Parcells were locked in a tango over whether the Pro Bowl defensive end was more committed to a future acting career or football.

An injury-plagued disappointing year in Washington later, and Taylor, 34, is back home in South Florida working on his various charity endeavors and lobbying for a return to the Dolphins.

"We talked," Taylor said when asked if he's met with Parcells. "I'm not going to get into what we talked about and the details of it. They know how I feel and what I'd like to do. I know how they feel and what they'd like to do and what they're looking for."

General manager Jeff Ireland made it clear at his pre-draft press conference that while the Dolphins are interested there's plenty of roadblocks, but the alleged rift with Parcells is, "not much," of a factor.

"Players in particular like Jason who is going to be 35 in September; you have to look at whether veteran players are progress stoppers for younger players," Ireland said. "We have to look at that. Economics have something to do with it. Being so close to the draft, you have to look at what is available in the draft. I always say 'you never know what is falling off the tree and there is an acorn down there.' We are looking at it. I am not going to say that we are not, but the interest level is something that I won't comment on."

Taylor said it would be really difficult to play for the Jets, a team he's despised his entire career, but he wouldn't rule out the Patriots, whose owner Robert Kraft recently laid out the welcome mat to. For years Taylor has heaped praise on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Taylor was touched by recent compliments from former teammates like Channing Crowder, Joey Porter and Ronnie Brown, who all recently told the Sun-Sentinel that they want him back.

"It means something to me," Taylor said. "I have talked to Joey, Ronnie and Channing. It's great to be wanted and be respected by guys in this league. You play this game for a lot of reasons and one of things that really validates you is when players around the league ... have respect for you. That's very humbling and we'll see what happens.

"(Me and Porter) being on the opposite sides of each other could obviously work in the right situations, but that's for neither one of us to say."

The Dolphins are counting on CFL import Cameron Wake and Charlie Anderson to complement Porter on the outside pass-rushing chores. No decision on whether the team will sign Taylor is expected until after the draft.
