Miami Dolphins Notes, Quotes 2009-03-01
--Dolphins coach Tony Sparano isn't worried that 66-year-old offensive coordinator Dan Henning is contemplating retirement. "He's fired up," Sparano said. "The season for Dan gave him a shot of adrenaline. To see how our young players responded to Dan, and more importantly how Dan responded to them. I really felt the guy was outstanding (last) year. The way he was with our (players) and used our people. I love having him on our staff. He gives me a guy that's been there before. I can bounce things off him that maybe I can't bounce off every guy on my staff."

--LB Channing Crowder thought he was gone less than a week before Miami re-signed him to a three-year deal. "I want to play football next year, and I'm confident I can play in the NFL, so I'll play football next year and hopefully it's with the Dolphins. But if it's with somebody else, I know I can play football," Crowder said. "They had the first crack at it and they dropped the ball, so we'll see what other teams do. It's their loss."

--C Samson Satele can't be feeling too secure these days as the Dolphins have made it clear that they're in the market for a center either through free agency or the draft. "They've been chasing Brown pretty hard. It wouldn't surprise me if that's where he winds up," said draft analyst Michael Lombardi, who spent 23 years as an NFL executive.

--The Wildcat was the talk of the Combine and coach Tony Sparano admitted that the Dolphins have plenty of more cards up their sleeves. "It's going to be a part of our personality," Sparano said. "There's no question about it. I think our players like it. I think our coaches feel like there's some advantages there. There's some things this offseason that we had to go back and look at and reevaluate how to do it better, those type of things. There was a lot left on the bone that we didn't roll out there during the course of the season for one reason or the other. This gives us a chance this offseason to push the envelope a little bit more."

--LB Joey Porter said that Bill Parcells didn't talk to him for the first 2-3 months at the facility. "I was there a couple of months before he even said anything to me," Porter told the NFL Network. "I stumbled across him in the weight room and he had Lawrence Taylor in there. He said, 'Come on over here, I want you to meet somebody.' That was our first conversation with Bill, and I'd been there for like three months. He came in last year at the end of the year and I'd seen him on the elevator. 'How you doing, Bill?' He just gets on the elevator. I said, 'All right.' As the season got going I earned his respect and he talked to me. (Now) I think I'm a Parcells' guy."

QUOTE OF NOTE: "Baseball is more of a one-on-one game than football is. Football is a little bit more like a symphony orchestra, but I don't really think you can be too successful in any team game without some kind of chemistry." -- Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, who attended a Cardinals spring training game near his home in Jupiter where he spends time with longtime friend manager Tony La Russa.
