Miami Dolphins Notes, Quotes 2009-03-06
--LB Channing Crowder, who seemed headed for free agency, signed a three-year deal before testing the market mostly because of his love for South Florida. "We talked about what it was like to go to another team. That's when I started to realize, if you're happy where you're at, then stay, Crowder told the Miami Herald. "I love Miami. So I basically told (agent) Joel (Segal) that if we could get to some numbers where everybody is happy, let's pull the trigger."

--C/G Jake Grove, who the Dolphins signed to a five-year deal worth $30 million with $14 million guaranteed over the first three years, has played just one full season in his five-year career.

"All of that is behind me. I'm good to go. ... (The Dolphins) made a commitment to me, and I'm going to come in and work every day and make sure I make the commitment to them to make sure they know I'm worth the money," Grove told WQAM radio.

--DE Vonnie Holliday, a locker room leader who was quite productive in 2008 with 46 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, was shocked when the Dolphins released him before his $1.5 roster bonus was due. Holliday said he was ready to renegotiate but the Dolphins pulled the deal off the table. "We thought we were in a negotiating process," Holliday told the Sun Sentinel. "But at the 11th hour it turned out it wasn't necessarily a negotiating process. It was more like they decided to go a different route. I'm not bitter at anybody. It's a business. I'm a 12-year guy. I thought my deal was pretty cap-friendly. It's certainly unfortunate because I like the direction the team was going in and felt like I was going to be part of that direction. Unfortunately not."

--Retired QB Dan Marino wasn't surprised that Dolphins VP of football operations Bill Parcells hasn't made a big splash in free agency so far. "Coach Parcells knows what he's doing," Marino said. "He knows if he had to go out and get a big-time free agent that's a lot of notoriety so he would've done that. I'm sure that he's getting the guys he wants to get, you see the progress they made last year. You got to believe in what they believe in. You see the results. I'm sure that will continue."

--WR De'Cody Fagg was brought in for a workout this week and according to his agent the Dolphins were impressed but not enough to offer a contract. Fagg blew out his ACL during his combine workout last year, but is supposedly better than ever. He has four more private workouts scheduled before attending FSU's Pro Day on March 16.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It was definitely a learning experience this year. We'll see how it all plays out coming up this year. I would assume he'd be the starter at the beginning of the season, but who knows? We'll see how it plays out." -- QB Chad Henne when asked if he's content to be Chad Pennington's backup for another season.
