Miami Dolphins Notes, Quotes 2009-04-10
--RB Ronnie Brown attended the tennis matches at the Sony Ericsson Open last week and said his favorite player was always Andre Agassi.

"Growing up I liked Andre Agassi. I even bought a pair of his shoes when I was little. They were all white with a little Nike sign on the side."

Brown also said he's ready to have a breakout season as his coach intimated recently.

"I'm going into my fifth season, so I feel comfortable. My goal each year is to continue to get better. I don't try to set any numbers or any stats and stuff like that. I just want to try to build on what I did last season."

--The Dolphins are desperately looking for a young nose tackle to succeed Jason Ferguson, however, 13-14 other teams that use the 3-4 are also in the same fix. Boston College's B.J. Raji and Ron Brace are on most team's wish lists, but Raji will surely be gone before the Dolphins' 25th pick.

"Well how many guys do you see walking around the street that are 6-4, 320?" general manager Jeff Ireland asked. "There's just not many. There's just not many guys. I just threw out 6-4, 320 pounds. Again those are all just numbers. That's what Fergie is. He's 6-4, 310, I think. You like those kind of bodies."

--GM Jeff Ireland explained why the Dolphins basically decided to swap centers with the Oakland Raiders, signing Jake Grove and trading Samson Satele.

"Jake is a player that we studied throughout the draft and we liked him in Dallas when he came out. He was a player that in free agency that we liked," Ireland said. "In regard to Samson, I have a lot of respect for what Samson did here. He is a good player and good kid. He is a high character guy and I like him very much, but we needed better consistency at the position. Without going into specific details, that was the main thing we needed. Better consistency."

--Coach Tony Sparano said he misses calling plays but as long as OC Dan Henning is around he's fine with leaning on his experience.

"I can honestly tell you that during the course of a game, when I'm out there and I'm communicating with our offense and our defense, I don't really give it a second thought because I have too much on my plate. The game management part of this thing every week presents something different to the head coaches, and I think every head coach would tell you that no matter how long they've been doing it. That to me is a great challenge, I get excited about it, and it helps me to miss calling the plays."

--LB Joey Porter said it's time to start laying the groundwork for a post-football career.

"This is a new page. I'm releasing a whole new person. This is grown-up Peezy. I've got to start networking, tapping into all the resources I haven't been tapping into. The hard-headed Peezy was letting everyone else take (endorsements). I've got to get my little face time back."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It'd be very, very, very difficult. At the end of the day, if I couldn't find a job anywhere else and the Jets called, I guess I'd have to retire or go play." -- Defensive end Jason Taylor said if long-time rival Jets were the only team that wanted him.
