Miami Dolphins Notes, Quotes 2009-04-27
--RB Ronnie Brown has been the subject of trade rumors but GM Jeff Ireland shot that down in his post-draft press conference Saturday night.

"We can put them to bed," Ireland said. "It's funny, before the draft, you have a lot of people calling you ... somehow those things take on a life of their own ... I say 'Yeah, they are all available for a price.'

"Someone might have said, 'Does that include Ronnie?,' and I said 'Like I said, they are all available.' I don't know if someone took that and ran with it, but we are not looking to trade Ronnie Brown -- you can write that."

--Vice president of football operations Bill Parcells has been a decision-maker in 22 drafts, 20 of which he's had a first-round selection. Of those 20, 10 have come from the Big 10, including Saturday's pick of Illinois CB Vontae Davis.

--The Dolphins traded down from their 56th pick to 61 with the Colts, and picked up another pick in the fifth round (165).

--Davis is the sixth defensive back taken by the Dolphins in the first round, joining Jason Allen (16th in 2005), Jamar Fletcher (26th) in 2001, Troy Vincent (7) in 1992, Louis Oliver (25) in 1989 and Don McNeal (21st) in 1980. McNeal, Vincent and Oliver were solid, while Fletcher and Allen didn't pan out.

--CB Sean Smith, Miami's third-round pick out of Utah, has been labeled as too tall (6-3) to be a cornerback. Smith said that fuels him.

"It definitely does," he said. "The coaching staff was excited about what I could bring to the organization. ... I'm just ready to get down there and prove it to the world."

--CB Vontae Davis joins his brother San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis as a first-round selection. The last set of brothers that were both selected in the first round were Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and New York Giants QB Eli Manning. Peyton Manning was the first overall pick in the 1998 draft, while his brother Eli was the first choice of the San Diego Chargers in the 2004 draft (and was later traded to the New York Giants).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That is what people keep talking about. But everybody who knows Vontae, knows that I'm a great person, a great player and Bill Parcells speaks louder than words and for him to draft me he knows what type of person I am." -- Illinois CB Vontae Davis referring to himself in the first person when asked about past character issues that caused his coach to demote him.
