Pat White will growl in the NFL

Pat White will growl in the NFL
Apr. 29, 2009 (Sun Sentinel delivered by Newstex ) --

It's usually not wise to rush to judgment before you've done the necessary research. That's what happened when I concluded the Miami Dolphins drafted Pat White earlier than they needed to on Saturday when they made him their first of two second-round picks.

As it turns out, most NFL teams had?this West Virginia record-setter?rated as a top 50 draft prospects no matter the position. And a couple of them had him targeted as their second round selection.

There's this perception out there - smokescreen or not - that the Patriots (owners?of six dozen 2009 draft picks)?were amongst them.

Even if for some reason?White, who is undefeated in all four of his bowl games (which I'm told is an amazing accomplishment for a starting quarterback),?slipped into the second round I'm told teams would have traded up to get him early in round three.

So the bottom line is: the Dolphins didn't want to chance losing the one player they felt could help them revolutionize pro Football.

White's steady improvement in Senior Bowl practices (he was bad his first day, I saw it....he couldn't take snaps from under center), and his strong Senior Bowl game (which he won MVP for) proved to many in?NFL circles?he's a difference maker.

"He just made things look too easy in that Senior Bowl game. He wasn't going against college kids. He was going against future pros. Future NFL starters," one of my scouting buds told me.

If you don't believe him, or me,?just look for yourself. As they say in the scouting community, "the eye in the sky doesn't lie."

So when I said earlier this weekend that the Trifecta was either arrogant or paranoid based on how they conducted themselves in the 2009 draft, the truth is it's a little bit of both.

Can you blame them. GROWL!
