PRO BOWL WORTHY DOLPHINS?

PRO BOWL WORTHY DOLPHINS?
The Dolphins have their own version of Vote-gate going and I'm leading the charge for a Senate hearing looking into the matter.

Last week I asked Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter to explain why he'd become so popular in such a short time-span.

Carpenter's rise from unknown rookie kicker to the AFC's leading Pro Bowl vote-getter last week - pulling in over 90,000 votes for the Pro Bowl IN ONE WEEK - isn't just unheard of. It's absolutely unbelievable.

Based on how many people actually attend Dolphins games I've occasionally wondered if there are 90,000 Dolphins fans with a computer. So exactly how can this unknown kicker, who most Dolphins fans couldn't point out in a lineup, become the AFC's top vote getting kicker in one week.

Is all of Montana voting for their NFL superstar? Do you get free book voucher at the University of Montana with proof of Pro Bowl voting.

Are Northeast radio and television stations campaigning for Carpenter harder than the NAACP pushed for Barack Obama to become president?

Is Carpenter's mom the Amway or Mary-Kay kingpin of Helena (Montana), and is she strong arming customers for votes in exchange of product delivery?

Did the Dolphins rookie kicker room with a computer hacker who has cracked the NFL's Pro Bowl voting code, and is he now hooking up his buddy?

I needed some answers, and the AFC's Special Teams Player of the Month wasn't giving me any last week.

"Exactly what are you getting at here," a defensive Carpenter said, stiff-arming my question.

What I'm getting at Danny boy is how does a KICKER become more popular than Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Andre Johnson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, blowing them all away by thousands and thousands and thousands of votes in one week?

Is Carpenter's consistency winning people their fantasy Football league, and is this his reward?

What's is up with all the votes for Carpenter? And pair it with his play this season, will it be enough to earn the undrafted rookie a Pro Bowl invite.

Since this is the final two days of fan voting for the Pro Bowl I figured I'd present Dolphins fans one last chance to stuff the ballot for Carpenter and other Pro Bowl worthy Dolphins.

Here is a look at the Dolphins worthy of getting a free trip to Hawaii.

OLB Joey Porter - Considering Porter has led the NFL in sacks for most of this season it's a given he earns his fourth Pro Bowl bid. He's presently the AFC's leading vote getter at his position.

Special teamer Patrick Cobbs - This one is a sentimental vote for Tony Sparano's favorite player. Hard work and a hustler's mentality has transformed this player, who was once considered nothing more than roster filler, into the top special teams performer on his team. Last week he was 13,000 votes shy of getting the fan nod. I'm betting Sparano's voting for him right now. You should to because it sends a great message about the rewards of hard work.

QB Chad Pennington - His numbers aren't eye opening sexy, but his efficiency and command of the offense has made him one of the NFL's top quarterbacks this season. He doesn't have the big name other AFC quarterbacks possess, but he's the trigger man behind an 8-5 team that features one of the NFL's most productive offenses.

RB Ronnie Brown - The yards aren't there because Brown shares the workload with Ricky Williams, but the touchdowns (11) are. Behind the running of Brown the Wildcat offense set the NFL on fire, gaining him more national notoriety. That might explain why the Dolphins starter is presently the AFC's leading vote getter.

SS Yeremiah Bell - Not only does Bell's 97 tackles, one sack, seven pass deflections, and three forced fumbles make him a good candidate for one of the Pro Bowl safety spots. He should also be a front-runner for NFL's Comeback Player of the Year considering he missed all but one game last season with a torn Achilles.

CB Will Allen - There's nothing sexy about his game. You barely notice Will Allen each week because you barely notice the receiver he's defending. So far this season Allen has contributed 45 tackles, deflected 13 passes, and intercepted three passes (taking one back for a touchdown). He's on pace to have the best season of his eight year NFL career.

LG Justin Smiley - Before he suffered his season-ending leg injury Smiley was the Dolphins top performing offensive lineman. Check every Dolphins running highlight this season and it would be easy to see why. Smiley, who had only given up one sack in 2008, was the lineman opening up the holes.

LT Jake Long - Quick, name four AFC offensive tackles not associated with the Dolphins. I didn't think you could, and neither could most of those voting. That might explain why Long, who has had a strong rookie season, is the AFC's leading vote getter for his position. I'm not saying he's not deserving of a Pro Bowl nod, but his popularity has a lot to do with his voting success. It'll be interesting to see if the players and coaches show him the same respect.

So, who is Pro Bowl worth? And are there any Dolphins I'm missing who deserve a trip to Hawaii?

Deuces.
