Rookies are trying to take NFL jobs

Rookies are trying to take NFL jobs
May 1, 2009 (Sun Sentinel delivered by Newstex ) --

Undrafted rookie free agent Brennan Marion, one of the Miami Dolphins' nine undrafted signees,?sure has an interesting story to him. One that might even make for a good?tear-jerking story line?of a movie considering he was homeless at a point during his college career.

Marion's?story probably makes you want to pull for the Tulsa standout to at least make the practice squad. But he better bring it because veteran receivers?Anthony Armstrong and Todd Lowber are also fighting for their NFL dreams, and?all these rookies?competing in this weekend's minicamp are trying to take it from there, and the rest of the returning veterans.

Just like in every other industry throughout American, and probably the world, NFL teams push out the old and experienced veterans and replace them with younger, cheaper laborers.

That's why no one on the team is going to feel sorry for Marion because if they do they'll probably end up feeling sorry for themselves.

Welcome to the cut-throat world of the NFL, where Will Allen will be asked to teach and mentor Vontae Davis and Sean Smith, the two players he knows will ultimately make him expendable next season when his contract is up.

When safety Courtney Bryan didn't initially make the 53-man roster he ended up?making roast beef sandwiches at Arby's until the Dolphins needed a little special teams at mid-season, got tired of churning other safeties,?and decided to re-sign.

You don't think Bryan knows fifth-round pick Chris Clemons is trying to send him back to the fast food industry?

That's just the nature of this business.

What Dolphins players do you think should fear for their roster spots the most?

Come back later today for a look at the updated defensive depth chart, and some of my observations and thoughts following the first day of rookie minicamp.
