During a radio interview this morning on Miamis 790 AM, Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano admitted the team was re-considering the possibility of bringing back free agent defensive end Jason Taylor, who is also on the Patriots radar.
?Yeah, were talking. When I say ?we, its myself, Jeff (Ireland, GM), and Bill (Parcells, head of Football operations) have talked about Jason and had several conversations about it, Sparano said. ?Well revisit it now that the draft is over and were getting ready to look down the road at OTAs here pretty soon, so well revisit it again and see where we are.
When asked if the Pats interest in the veteran free agent?would influence Miamis decision, Sparano answered, ?It doesnt affect us one way or another. I think that at the end of this process its going to be about - from our end - our interest in Jason and how we see him fitting into our plans. If at that point he ends up in another place, thats nothing I can control.
Previously, the Dolphins stance on Taylor was that his re-signing might stunt the growth of some of their younger players, particularly Matt Roth.
?Taylor lives in the Fort Lauderdale area, and wouldnt have to spend as much time away from his wife and three children should he re-sign with the Dolphins .?
? The Pats, meanwhile, have not filled the hole created at outside linebacker with the trade of Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs.? They still may go with someone in house, be it Pierre Woods, Shawn Crable, Vince Redd, or Tully Banta-Cain.?? One of these players, or a combination of them, may ultimately play on the opposite end of Adalius Thomas and provide a pass rush. Taylor, however, provides a veteran and more proven option.
