1972 Miami Dolphins

About this video:
Description:
This is a segment from the 1986 program, "20 Years of the Miami Dolphins," telecast on Miami's WPLG Channel 10. It includes brief highlights and summaries of many of the games from 1972. I was particularly impressed it spotlights the 51 yard field goal by Garo Yepremian during the 4th quarter of the 16-14 comeback victory over the Vikings in week three. The unbeaten season never would have reached talking point stage minus that kick outdoors in Metropolitan Stadium. Miami trailed 14-6 and had been battered and frustrated all day. Keep in mind it was prior to the adoption of the 2 point conversion. The game likely would have ended tamely in Minnesota's favor if Garo had missed. Another vital play toward 17-0 is shown in this video, the leaping deep grab by Paul Warfield in the middle of the 4th quarter against the Browns in the first playoff game. Miami trailed 14-13 on a dreary overcast day. The Orange Bowl crowd was silent and nervous and lacking energy. Morrall was having a horrible day. Miami had done little offensively, the only touchdown coming on a blocked punt in the first half. The huge play to Warfield revived the team and the crowd. Jim Kiick scored the game winning touchdown to cap the drive. I can't believe they devoted less than a minute to the 1973 Dolphins, 15-2 Super Bowl champions. Second best season in franchise history and it barely earned a mention. The program continued with lengthy blabber about the late '70s, then predictable gushing over the early Marino years. None of those teams remotely compared to 1973.
